The Graduate Program in Biochemistry leads to the Ph.D. degree. The program aims to provide broad training that can be used in different contexts. While most students are expected to pursue a research career or to combine research with teaching in an academic setting, some choose alternate career paths such as corporate research and development, scientific communication, research administration, or law. So that graduates can deal with the full range of current biochemical problems, training extends from molecular biology to biophysics. The curriculum includes a core of courses in biochemistry, biological catalysis, structural analysis, and molecular biology. The program, as is usual for American graduate programs, emphasizes laboratory training.
