Villanova University offers a doctoral program in philosophy, specializing in continental philosophy and the history of philosophy. Widely recognized as a center for continental studies, the Philosophy Department at Villanova offers a continuum of challenging courses in the continental tradition: from its post-Cartesian beginnings in Kant, Hegel, Kierkegaard and Nietzsche; through the classic texts of Husserl, Heidegger, Sartre, and Merleau-Ponty; up to a wide range of issues in contemporary hermeneutics, feminism, and deconstruction, found in writers like Derrida, Foucault, Lyotard, Levinas, Habermas, Gadamer, Ricoeur, Deleuze, Lacan, Baudrillard, Irigaray and other French feminists.

Accreditation Information: Villanova and its programs have received accreditation through the Middle States Association of Colleges and secondary Schools
