The Department of Physiology in the Medical School at the University of Wisconsin (UW) encourages applications for graduate study leading to a Ph.D. degree. Graduate students are registered in the graduate school and become candidates for a Ph.D. degree in physiology. A master's degree is normally earned while fulfilling the Ph.D. requirements. In addition to courses in human and cellular physiology, graduate students use modern cellular and molecular approaches in their research to address questions in the areas of molecular, cellular, and systems physiology and neuroscience. A minor field, required for the doctorate, may be selected from anatomy, biochemistry, pharmacology, physiological psychology, zoology, or related fields. The program also offers an educator emphasis that provides students with an option to minor in education
