Certificate-Bioinformatics Essentials
On Campus

Bioinformatics is the application of computer technology to the management and utilization of biological information. Computers are used to gather, store, analyze and integrate biological and genetic information that can then be applied to gene-based drug discovery and development. The explosion of genomic information resulting from the Human Genome Project and other sequencing projects has precipitated the escalating need for bioinformatics capabilities. Indeed, the wealth of genetic data from human sequencing efforts has spawned a number of new companies, strategic alliances and reinventions of existing firms with New England the nexus of this activity. Currently the demand for those skilled in bioinformatics far exceeds the supply. Five course graduate certificate.
