The aim of the Program in Computational Biology (COB) is to produce scientists trained in the use of biological systems to model and analyze sophisticated computational methods. This rapidly evolving field addresses the complex challenges of the 21st century in understanding the behavior of biological systems and human diseases. Computational biologists with the skill to do this are now widely sought by industry, research centers, and universities. COB is a multidisciplinary program that involves six different divisions and departments at New York University and Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Participating departments and divisions are NYU Graduate School of Arts and Science (Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Neural Science), NYU School of Medicine Sackler Institute of Graduate Biomedical Sciences, and Mount Sinai School of Medicine (Program in Biomedical Sciences ). The COB program features • Dual faculty advisers in both biological and computational science • Interdisciplinary training through flexible and background-tailored tracks, trainee-led seminars, and ethics/research conduct courses • Summer internships in industry, academia, or government laboratories • Learning environments and activities that promote interdisciplinary interactions and broader collaborations within and outside NYU/MSSM • Mentoring and career development activities
