Master's
M.A. - Heritage Resources
On Campus

The Masters of Art in Heritage Resources at Northwestern State University serves students from diverse undergraduate and professional backgrounds. It provides a broad, working knowledge and ethical understanding of preservation needs and an appreciation for the multiple elements of heritage resources sufficient to prepare them for entry-to-mid-level professional practice. This is a hands-on two-year full-time program requiring four semesters and a summer internship. The program educates students in an environment that realistically reflects the multi-disciplinary teams that they will join in professional practice. These disciplines include: anthropology, archaeology, cultural landscapes, ethnography, historic preservation, history, and materials conservation. Professionals with federal, state and local agencies, historic preservation groups, as well as property owners and other individuals mentor students through service learning, assistantships, internships and endowed fellowships by providing practical projects and guidance. Professional partners also guest lecture in courses, facilitate public lectures and help direct final projects.

Accreditation Information: Northwestern State University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate, baccalaureate, master’s and specialist’s degrees.
