Students choose an emphasis area which may include any of the following: school counseling, family counseling/therapy, counseling children and adolescents, and gerontology or a doctoral minor in higher education and student affairs leadership,. Graduates are also qualified for licensure as professional counselors, and may be employed in such sites as community agencies, schools, counseling centers, employee assistance programs, and private practice. A number of graduate assistantships are available. 89-101 credits are required depending on completed prerequisites.     Accreditation Information: Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs & North Central Association of Colleges and Schools  # Of Credits Required:   Time To Degree: 4-6 years    Previous Degrees Pre-Requisite Courses International Student Requirements An international student is not a citizen of the United States or classified by United States Immigration and Naturalization Service as a resident alien. International undergraduate, transfer, and graduate applicants must meet English Language proficiency as well as academic and financial requirements before being fully admitted to the university. One option to demonstrate English Language proficiency is to successfully complete the UNC Intensive English Language Program. Please see the UNC website for more information. International student Undergraduate/Transfer and Graduate applications (paper and on-line submission) with accompanying instructions are found on the UNC website as well.
