Western Seminary, Portland Campus Master of Theology 5511 SE Hawthorne Blvd. Portland, OR 97215 US   Phone: 503-517-1800 Fax: 503-517-1801   At a Glance Program Requirements Tuition & Financial Aid Institution Overview Important Dates Upcoming Events Degrees: Program Format: Master's Master of Theology (Thesis Track, Non-Thesis Track) On Campus   The Master of Theology at Western provides advanced training in biblical and theological studies to people with a variety of interests: pastors seeking to deepen their ministerial foundation, graduate students wanting to prepare for further postgraduate study, or other graduate students simply desiring to devote some time to developing a specialized interest in a particular field of study.     Accreditation Information: Western Seminary is accredited to award master's and doctor's degrees by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU), and is an accredited member of the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) in the United States and Canada.  # Of Credits Required: 25  Time To Degree:     Previous Degrees A prospective Master of Theology student may hold a three-year Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree or a comparable graduate theological degree from a graduate-level institution accredited regionally and/or by the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada (ATS).  Pre-Requisite Courses International Student Requirements Prior to applying to Western Seminary, international students must complete a Pre-Application that can be requested from the Admissions Department. If an international student is encouraged to apply to Western Seminary, he or she is required to provide a financial guarantee that will cover his or her study and living expenses for one year. It is expected that, barring unforeseen circumstances, adequate funding will be available from the same or equally dependable sources for subsequent years. The financial guarantee must include living expenses for any dependents as well. The guarantee must indicate the individual(s) or organization(s) that will actually provide the funds for study and living expenses.  Requirements Qualifying Exam: None Required Minimum Exam Score: GPA or Equivalent: 3.0 English Proficiency: Yes Research Competency: Yes Clinical Internship: No   Work Experience A student seeking entrance into the Th.M. program with an academic M.A. degree must also demonstrate competency in the areas of communication, interpersonal relationships, intercultural awareness, and  Volunteer Experience Publications Experience Foreign Language Requirement Must be able to demonstrate an ability to work in any language considered necessary for the chosen field of study. Proficiency in English composition is also required.  Other Requirements Applicants, for whom English is not their first language, are required to demonstrate evidence of mastery of the English language for graduate study. The standard for this is through the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
