Students and preceptors in the biochemistry program utilize the concepts and approaches of chemistry to understand the molecular basis of biological processes. Fundamental chemical principles such as kinetics and thermodynamics, along with detailed structural information, provide the main experimental avenues that often are combined with theoretical approaches to understand the stability and specificity of macromolecular interactions, their mechanisms of action, and the regulation of a variety of cellular processes.
