The Ph.D. program in Physiology is designed to provide the academic and scientific skills necessary for students to pursue careers in biomedical research. Formal coursework in molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry and pharmacology are taught in a framework of integrative physiology so that students in early stages of training gain a fuller appreciation for the mechanisms that regulate body functions. Students participate in research programs of the faculty. This allows the student a wide range of choice in selecting an area of particular interest for their dissertation research. The successful completion of this research endeavor culminates in the dissertation.
