The focus of the Biomedical Engineering (BME) Program at UT has always been on engineering. UT is ranked as one of the top ten engineering graduate schools in the United States. In developing an interdisciplinary BME program, we have drawn on this strength. Faculty in the program are appointed jointly in BME and in one of the traditional engineering or science departments. Over 25 graduate courses are regularly offered through the BME program. All have significant engineering content and are taught by biomedical engineers, senior research scientists or clinicians with research backgrounds. Despite this engineering focus, we maintain strong clinical ties with several area medical schools including the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio. Strong research collaborations are maintained with the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, one of the premier cancer research institutions in the world, as well as other area hospitals.
