M.A. - Art History

The Master of Arts degree in Art History at the University of St. Thomas is an advanced course of study that seeks to prepare its students for the demands of independent research in art history and to present their results in a variety of public and scholarly venues. Graduate courses focus on issues and problems in art history, the process of defining and carrying out a research agenda, the use of various methodologies and theories to define and interpret evidence, and the ability to read both analytically and critically original and scholarly material. The program emphasizes an inclusive perspective that encompasses a range of media and global cultures and a contextual approach to art that examines its social, economic, political, and religious importance. -The students is our terminal M.A. program receive a level of support and attention that other institutions reserve for doctoral-level students. -The broad-based curriculum reflects the interdisciplinary and culturally diverse expertise of our faculty. -Small classes create a collegial atmosphere and foster personal interaction between faculty and students. -A flexible course of study allows you to shape your degree program according to your own interests. -Full- and part-time students are welcome, and mostseminars are offered after conventional workday hours. -Our location allows us to take advantage of the rich cultural resources of the Twin Cities.
