Both basic and applied research may be pursued in the Rocky Mountains or elsewhere, by means of the thesis option or the non-thesis option. In addition to a variety of excellent content specialists, there are a number of faculty vigorously pursuing pedagogical research on earth sciences learning strategies and other topics. Teaching assistantships and research assistantships available for qualified applicants.     Accreditation Information: North Central Association of Colleges and Schools  # Of Credits Required:   Time To Degree:     Previous Degrees Bachelors degree.  Pre-Requisite Courses No specific prerequisites necessary, but course of study (including undergraduate remedial courses if necessary) is required for each graduate student.  International Student Requirements An international student is not a citizen of the United States or classified by United States Immigration and Naturalization Service as a resident alien. International undergraduate, transfer, and graduate applicants must meet English Language proficiency as well as academic and financial requirements before being fully admitted to the university. One option to demonstrate English Language proficiency is to successfully complete the UNC Intensive English Language Program. Please see the UNC website for more information. International student Undergraduate/Transfer and Graduate applications (paper and on-line submission) with accompanying instructions are found on the UNC website as well. In your letter, specifically discuss why UNC meets your needs for a M.A. in Earth Sciences. Also include a discussion of your research interests and your eventual career plans. This letter is very important. Also in the letter, state whether or not you wish to apply as a lab teaching assistant in geology, meteorology, or astronomy, and the qualifications you have for that work (these are paid jobs and may come with partial or full tuition waiver).
