It offers an in-depth and individualized course of study. The program provides opportunities for students who want to develop advanced expertise in art education, art history, and studio arts. Courses from any of the program areas are suitable for the K-12 art educator seeking a Master's degree. The M.A. degree can also be used in preparation for further, more advanced, graduate studies. It is the goal of the School of Art & Design to encourage, foster, and provide academic rigor and artistic excellence. Students who have completed an undergraduate degree in art or art education or the equivalent and whose grade point average is a minimum of 3.0 based on the last 60 semester hours of coursework may apply for the Master of Arts degree program in the School of Art & Design. An applicant who does not have an undergraduate major in art or art education, or its equivalent, will be required to complete specified coursework or areas of study before beginning the program. Admission to the Master of Arts in Art & Design degree program is approved by the faculty of the School of Art & Design following an evaluation of the applicant's admission materials.     Accreditation Information: North Central Association of Colleges and Schools  # Of Credits Required:   Time To Degree:     Previous Degrees BA or equivalent in Visual Arts preferred.  Pre-Requisite Courses If Bachelor's degree is in another area, additional course work will be required.  International Student Requirements An international student is not a citizen of the United States or classified by United States Immigration and Naturalization Service as a resident alien. International undergraduate, transfer, and graduate applicants must meet English Language proficiency as well as academic and financial requirements before being fully admitted to the university. One option to demonstrate English Language proficiency is to successfully complete the UNC Intensive English Language Program. Please see the UNC website for more information.
