On Campus

The School of Engineering and Mines offers graduate programs leading to a Ph.D. in Engineering. Our Doctoral program leads to a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Engineering, with an emphasis in Chemical, Environmental, or Energy Engineering. This program provides you with specialized training customized to meet your specific interests and needs based on the research strengths of the faculty. Considerable flexibility exists to pursue research within any of the faculty's areas of research. In addition to the strong research component and the traditional grounding in chemical engineering, you can expand your understanding of ethical, political, social, and economic issues through the multidisciplinary component of the program. The average time for completion of the Ph.D. (after achieving the M.S. degree) is three years. Research projects are often conducted through our interdisciplinary sustainable energy Research, Infrastructure and Supporting Education (SUNRISE) research program or in collaboration with the Energy and Environmental Research Center (EERC). Financial aid is provided for the vast majority of PhD students.
