The program culminates in the Doctor of Philosophy degree. Student research emphasis may be in areas such as molecular pharmacology and biophysics of receptors and ion channels, biochemistry of signal transduction, cardiovascular and neuropharmacology at the tissue, cell and molecular levels, the molecular mechanics of smooth muscle contraction, biophysical modeling, and the electrophysiologic basis of excitability in vascular and visceral smooth muscles.
