The Ph.D. program requires an MA in art history or archaeology or its equivalent; for students whose MA did not require a thesis, the department reserves the right to require a substitute. A total of 42-48 hours are required and the student's program is directed by a Doctoral Program Committee. The requirements for a qualifying examination and languages are the same as for the MA, except the students in classical archaeology are expected to have a good reading knowledge of both Greek and Latin.
