The Psychometrics Track in the University of Louisiana at Monroe Masters of Science in Psychology Program allows students to work closely with empirically-oriented scientist/clinicians (scientist/practitioner model)in a highly collegial, productive setting. A goal of our program is to train graduates to work under supervision of licensed psychologists or in other appropriate settings. Employment opportunities for graduates continue to be strong. Additionally, many of our students go on to doctoral PhD or PsyD programs, or to other professional degrees. Students are encouraged to conduct and present research at local, regional, and national conferences and to coauthor findings for submission to peer-reviewed publication. Our faculty works closely with members of other university departments, including Education, Gerontology, Sociology, Family Therapy, and Counseling. This enhances educational and research opportunities. Degree requirements include 36 credit hours, with a required empirical thesis. Internship experience is highly encouraged. The General Experimental Psychology track for the Masters of Science in Psychology is a 36 credit hour program designed to make students more competitive for doctoral programs and/or interdisciplinary research-based employment opportunities. In addition to nine hours addressing intelligence measurement, quantitative methods, and research design, students are required to complete: social cognition, theories of learning or cognition, behavior modification, neuropsychology, and a six-hour thesis. Residual hours are electives, although students are strongly encouraged to consider using these hours for interdisciplinary research with one or more professors.Research projects including thesis studies are collaborative efforts driven by student interest and faculty expertise. These empirical investigations cover a broad range of topics in behavioral science.
