The 21-credit Certificate of Advanced Study in School Media is designed for students who already possess an accredited master's degree in library and information science and seek certification as school library media specialist. The following required courses provide a foundation in literature and in media services provision for children/young adults. Skills and knowledge used in instructional design, collaboration, development, delivery and evaluation, information technologies in education, information literacy, motivation, and storytelling are also addressed. (Note: If a student has already completed any of the following courses with at least a grade of B, the course will be waived.) IST 504 Motivation and Information Literacy IST 611 Information Technologies in Educational Organizations IST 612 Youth Services in Libraries and Information Centers IST 661 Information Management in Schools IST 668 Literacy Through School Libraries Students must first undergo a thorough review of their graduate library science degree transcript to determine if the core graduate and undergraduate course requirements have been fulfilled. If all requirements have not been met, additional courses will be required. All students are required to complete 100 hours of fieldwork and a 6-credit practicum.
