The Department of Microbiology is part of both the College of Medicine and the College of Liberal Arts at The University of Iowa in Iowa City. The department's 28 faculty conduct research and teach in immunology, virology, pathogenic bacteriology, microbial genetics, microbial physiology, and biotechnology. Graduate studies in many of these areas involve interdisciplinary training both within and outside of the department. The nature of the program allows students to receive broad experiences during their course of study. Sixty graduate students, numerous postdoctoral fellows, undergraduates and staff comprise a vital and productive department
