The Department of Biomedical Engineering offers graduate programs leading to Master of Science (M.S.), with thesis and non-thesis options, and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees. The Department provides assistantships to the majority of the students working towards the M.S. (with thesis) and Ph.D. degrees. The course work required for the M.S. degree can be completed in typically four semesters if the student holds a B.S. degree in an engineering discipline. The course work for the Ph.D. degree can be completed in eight semesters beyond a B.S. degree. Research projects are most often interdisciplinary, and are often conducted with collaboration with research centers and institutes affiliated with the College of Engineering, and with the University Hospitals and Clinics, a large teaching hospital owned by the University.

Accreditation Information: The Biomedical Engineering program is accredited by ABET.
