The Graduate Program in Epidemiology in UC Irvine's School of Medicine is designed to train future researchers via an approach that integrates basic and clinical epidemiologic research methods and principals. Particular strengths of the program at UC Irvine include genetic, cancer and environmental epidemiology leading to disease in human populations. The mission the Department of Epidemiology faculty is to study the etiology (genetic and environmental) and control of chronic disease, particularly cancer, through its surveillance (cancer registries), education, research and public service activities. The UCI Center for Cancer Genetics Research and Prevention as well as the Genetic Epidemiology Research Institute operate within the Department of Epidemiology. Fees for California residents are approx. $12,000 per year with fee waivers available via fellowship awards, teaching assistant employment and research assistant employment. The application process is via an online graduate school application administered by the UC Irvine Graduate Division.
