The graduate program emphasizes teaching students to think imaginatively and effectively about research - to select important and fundamental problems, to choose feasible and incisive approaches, to design and execute effectively the actual experiments, to analyze and interpret the resulting data meaningfully, and to develop the insight to pursue fruitfully any subsequent questions that arise during an investigation. The operating principle of the program has been to stress the interdisciplinary nature of neuroscience research through emphasis on the value of obtaining a broad exposure to the basic concepts and techniques of a variety of specialized fields, the utility of such training for conducting effective research and the development of the ability to present the findings of a multidisciplinary investigation in an integrated and coherent manner (in both oral and written form).
