On Campus

The University of Arizona offers a program leading to the Master of Arts degree in German Studies, in which students may choose an emphasis in pedagogy or in literary and cultural studies. The curriculum includes literary studies from the medieval through the modern period, cultural studies, genre studies, applied linguistics, teaching methodology, and foreign language testing, as well as an introduction to a variety of critical methods. Students who complete their M.A. in German Studies have the opportunity to acquire a teaching certificate for K-12 public schools in just one additional semester, and are eligible to apply for admission to the Ph.D. Program in Second Language Acquisition and Teaching (SLAT). The department offers graduate teaching assistantships as well as a limited number of graduate fellowships.
