The MA program is designed to give the student a broad understanding of the field of political science and to provide specialized work in particular fields. The MA in political science offers excellent preparation for those students planning to continue on to the Ph.D., or who wish careers in government, teaching, and public service.

The Ph.D. in political science is primarily designed to produce graduates qualified for teaching and research in the most advanced areas of political inquiry. The program is structured to facilitate the student's pursuit of inquiry and training in traditional fields of study and areas more recently developed.

The Master of Public Administration program, offers students great flexibility in designing programs of study that draw upon other disciplines (such as Law, Business Administration, and Health Care) and such policy areas as social welfare and environmental management. In addition, it has newly emerging strengths in public financial administration and in management of non-profit organizations.
