MS/PhD programs provide research opportunities in state-of- the art laboratories. Incoming students are supported by Teaching Assistantships; Research Assistantships available in most areas. All non-residential tuition is waived and six credits of residential tuition is waived every semester through the completion of the degree.

There are two MS programs in Physics. The thesis option requires 24 credit hours of course work and six research credit hours of thesis. The report option requires 30 credit hours of course work and two hours of report. The following courses are required: classical mechanics, statistical thermodynamics, methods of theoretical physics, electromagnetic theory, quantum mechanics I, three electives in physics or a related area.

The PhD program requires 90 credit hours beyond the BS degree (60 credit hours beyond the MS). Besides the course work for the MS degree, there is additional course work in quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics, and course work in one's area of research. The chief component of the PhD program is the the successful completion of an original research project and the defense of a dissertation based on that research. There is a Preliminary exam testing the student's knowledge over the broad areas of physics and a qualifying exam required for admission to PhD candidacy.
