This advanced program builds on content that certified teachers mastered at the undergraduate level to facilitate their work with young children, their families, and their communities. The degree program is comprised of Education courses and a Practicum experience that address the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) standards, and the program involves advanced candidates in strengthening their knowledge, skills, and dispositions relating to working with children from birth to eight years. The Early Childhood Education program at NSU is nationally approved by NAEYC, a specialized professional association recognized by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). For those seeking admission to the M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education program after fall 2006 , please submit the following to NSU's Graduate School (1) an application for admission, (2) documentation of GRE scores (minimum of 800; 750 with stipulations), (3) documentation of a teaching license, (4) official transcript(s) of undergraduate work or degree earned, and (5) two letters of recommendation (forms available on the NSU Graduate School website).     Accreditation Information: The Early Childhood Education program at NSU is nationally approved by NAEYC, a specialized professional association recognized by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).  # Of Credits Required:   Time To Degree:     Previous Degrees Undergraduate preparation: valid teaching certificate in early childhood education, elementary education, or family and consumer sciences education.  Pre-Requisite Courses International Student Requirements Admission for International Students To be admitted for graduate study, international students must present to Northwestern State University an evaluation of their educational credentials by a United States professional evaluating service that has been approved by the university. International students must also meet all requirements for admission to the Graduate School. In addition, other documents required are: official TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) scores (minimum score of 500 paper and 173 computer), an official Financial Statement Certification verifying bank funds available in U.S. dollars, an Educational Experience by Years list, a Health Form, and Immunization Record. All admission records must be on file at least 30 days prior to the date of registration. Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a minimum grade point average of 2.0; 2. Application on file prior to registration; 3. Official transcripts on file prior to registration; 4. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores with a minimum of 750 on verbal plus quantitative sections; 5. Two letters of recommendation. All graduate students must furnish official transcripts from each college or university attended. All students applying for entry or re-entry to graduate study at Northwestern must be eligible to return to their former institutions to be considered for admission to Northwestern. No credit will be granted to a student by Northwestern for work done while suspended or dismissed from any institution.
