Founded in 2001 as the Mills MBA Program, the Lokey Graduate School of Business was created to open paths for women to attain the highest levels of management. Based on a strong economics foundation and a focus on socially responsible business practices, the curriculum is designed to prepare a new generation of ethical leaders. Located on a lush, 135-acre campus in the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area, Mills offers a diverse environment, a full array of career services, and a powerful network of more than 20,000 Mills alumnae. Students develop a solid foundation by taking courses in the following areas: finance, accounting, micro and macroeconomic theory, managerial economics, and quantitative methods for business. In addition, students take a required set of core courses in marketing, operations, human resources, MIS, and a course entitled Ethics, Leadership, and Entrepreneurship. We also offer a variety of electives that allow students to develop concentrations in the following areas: finance, global business, marketing, nonprofit management, and socially responsible business. All classes stress the importance of social responsibility and ethical business practices. To develop strong strategic and creative thinking skills, the majority of Mills MBA classes involve group work to encourage team building and to enable students to serve as both leaders and participants. Students learn to communicate effectively through these highly interactive classes and through frequent in-class presentations. The combination of the two produces graduates who are ready for the demands and challenges of the business environment.
