Dr.P.H. - Epidemiology
On Campus

Epidemiology comprises the research methods which identify and isolate the underlying causes of disease and injury. The epidemiologist plays a key role in conducting studies of the distribution and determinants of health and disease in populations; monitors diseases and studies the possible causes of change in disease occurrence, thus giving clues as to how to prevent or diminish disease. The findings that smoking causes lung cancer, certain diets promote coronary heart disease, certain lifestyles promote AIDS and many other relationships are the result of intensive epidemiologic research. Other areas of work can be found in the clinical setting where epidemiologists help evaluate the effects of different treatments or procedures.
