The Meteorology Graduate Program places particular emphasis on analytical, diagnostic, and numerical modeling analysis of atmospheric dynamics on a range of scales, with research exploring microscale features in the boundary layer, mesoscale processes in convective systems, and large scale dynamics important to global teleconnections and climate change. Current research studies are supported by such agencies as NSF, NOAA, NASA, and US-DOE.

Students who have undergraduate degrees in meteorology, physics, mathematics, engineering, or computer science are encouraged to apply for admission to the Atmospheric Sciences program. Students from these areas whose background does not include fluid dynamics and atmospheric physics are usually able to acquire prerequisites to graduate courses within the first year of graduate study.
