The graduate literature faculty offers a wide range of courses in British, American, and world literature, embracing diverse topics and methodologies. The program is intended to give students a broadly based grounding in literary studies. Graduate literature courses fall into three basic categories: methods courses, involving theories and methods and their applications; readings courses, covering a diverse selection of writers and primary and secondary texts across a broad period of time; and studies courses, involving intensive study of genre, gender, individual or clustered authors, and specific cultural, critical, or theoretical issues.
