The Master of Arts in Communication provides emphasis areas in mass communication and speech communication. The program is flexible and can be adapted to meet individual needs and interests. The Muleskinner, the UCM student newspaper, is available for real-world experience. There are opportunities with KMOS-TV, a public television station, and 90.9 KTBG-FM "The Bridge," a public radio station, and the Talking Mules, the university's award-winning debate team. The faculty are involved and actively pursuing research. Students have opportunities to be involved with professional organizations and scholarly research. Presentation at professional conferences is encouraged. Graduate students have opportunities to teach introductory speech coursees, assist broadcasting students in production labs, and/or coach students on the debate/forensics team. The progam includes international elements with visiting professors and strong encouragement of international experiences.
