This program is designed for the student seeking advanced training in professional biology, including the teaching of biology. Major areas of study include plant, animal, and aquatic ecology; microbiology and physiology; and molecular, cell, and organismic biology. The environmental and ecological emphasis of the faculty is augmented by nearby natural areas including Knob Noster State Park, the University Environmental Education Center, and the University's own Pertle Springs natural area which encompasses 200 acres including several lakes and ponds. Walk-in environmental chambers are available, plus small animal housing and greenhouse facilities. The 1100 sware foot molecular biology research and teaching facility houses equipment and provides a space for students and faculty interested in molecular and cell biology research. Equipment includes a thermal cycler, ultracold freezer, biological safety cabinet, UV-visible spectrophotometer, and computers.
