Within a 45-quarter-unit degree requirement, students, working with their advisors, tailor their courses of study to their own interests and needs. Elective units may be taken in approved areas outside English, and a limited amount of work may be transferred from other universities. Small classes encourage individualized attentionfrom the instructors. For the convenience of students, classes are normally scheduled in the late afternoons and early evenings. Study culminates with a master's degree thesis or master's degree examination in the student's areas of emphasis.
