The Department of Mathematics offers graduate work leading to the Master of Arts degree. The aim of the M.A. program is to provide students with a foundation sufficient to pursue careers in mathematics in industry, government, or education. The program offers opportunities to conduct original research under the supervision of a faculty member. The Ph.D. program prepares students for careers that depend on advanced mathematics. These include broad directions such as advanced research and development, education, industry, government, and national laboratories. For new students, the program offers a repertoire of courses and research opportunities that ease the transition from undergraduate to advanced graduate studies.
